John Harris Behan
1846 - Born in Kansas City, Missouri on the 23rd of October.
1863 - Came to the Arizona Territory from San Francisco arriving first in Prescott, the territorial seat.
1869 - Married Victoria Zaff and had two children.
1880 - Moved to Tombstone and worked for a short time as bartender in the Grand Hotel.
1881 - Appointed first Sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona by Governor Fremont.
- Behan was a witness to the gunfight at the O.K. Corral on the 26th of October.
1882 - He had a feud with his own deputy Breakenridge. Behan thus lost the nomination.
- Forced out of office in November.
- Behan served as the Deputy Superintendent of the Yuma Penitentiary.
- Served as a soldier in the Spanish American war.
1912 - Died on the 7th of June of "Bright's disease" immune-related renal failure in Tucson.
