Jeffery, Philip Michael
1937 - Born on December 12th in Wiluna, Western Australia.
1943 - Educated at Kent Street High School and the Royal Military College, Duntroon.
1966 - He graduated into Infantry and served operationally in Malaya, Borneo, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea.
- He was awarded a Military Cross and the South Vietnam Cross of Gallantry for his service as Company Commander in South Vietnam.
1991 - He was privileged to command all combat units of the Australian Army from a 30 man Platoon to a 12,500 strong Division and held senior staff appointments as Assistant Chief of the General Staff Logistics, Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Assistant Chief of the General Staff Materiel.
1993 - He retired from the Army to assume the appointment of Governor of Western Australia which he held for seven years.
- He was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia, a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and jointly with his wife Marlena a Citizen of Western Australia.
2000 - On his retirement as Governor, he established a not for profit research institute – Future Directions International (FDI) – whose object is to examine longer term issues facing Australia.
2003 - He was sworn in as the twenty-fourth Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
