1961 - Peter Jackson, born on the 31st of October in Pukerua Bay, New Zealand, an only child to Bill and Joan Jackson, both of whom were immigrants from England.
1987 - 1992 - He began making movies and quickly made a reputation as a director of schlocky but inventive horror comedies, including Bad Taste, Brain Dead and Meet the Feebles.
1994 - 1996 - Made two movies that were more mainstream, Heavenly Creatures and The Frighteners.
2001 - 2003 - He is the New Zealand filmmaker who directed the three films based on author J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy trilogy known as The Lord of the Rings.
- Won eleven Oscars and helped secure him place in cinema history. He himself won three Oscars for the film, for best picture, best director and best adapted screenplay.
2005 - He followed up with King Kong, a remake of the 1933 giant-ape classic.
