1920 - Born Irving Horenstein in New York on the 11th of June.

1940 - Howe attended City College and graduated, alongside Daniel Bell and Irving Kristol.

1948 - He joined the Independent Socialist League, where he was a central leader and left the ISL to co-found the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee and then the Democratic Socialists of America.

1954 - Howe helped found the intellectual quarterly Dissent.

         - He was a central leader and left the ISL to co-found the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee and then the Democratic Socialists of America.
