Hooker, Richard

1554 - Richard Hooker, born on March in Heavitree, Exeter, Devon, England. He is was an influential Anglican theologian.

1577 - Educated and received his MA, in Corpus Christi College, Oxford University.

1584 - He married, resigned from his college position, and became rector of Drayton Beauchamp in Buckinghamshire.

1585 - Was appointed Master (Rector) of the Temple Church in London, and soon came into conflict with Walter Travers, a leading Puritan and Assistant (Reader) at the Temple.

1592 - Became a canon at Salisbury Cathedral and Rector of the parish of Boscombe in Wiltshire.

1594 - His most well-known work is Of the Lawes of Ecclesiastical Politie, the first four books of which were published.

1595 - He became Rector of the parish of Bishopsbourne in Kent.

       - He was promoted by the crown to the rectory of Bishopsbourne near Canterbury, where he lived to see the completion of the fifth book.

1600 - Died on the 3rd of November in Bishopsbourne, Kent, England.
