1762 - Born in Callan, County Kilkenny, Ireland.
1791 - He designed the old state capitol building at Columbia, whose facade and portico were based on L'Enfant's proposed Federal Hall in New York City a design that was widely published in the U.S.
1792 - Hoban went to the federal capital and submitted a plan for the presidential mansion.
1793-1801 - The cornerstone was laid, and work continued.
- Hoban also designed the Grand Hotel, the Little Hotel, and his last federal commission,
1802 - Hoban was one of the superintendents in charge of the erection of the Capitol as designed by William Thornton.
1812 - Hoban also supervised the reconstruction of the building after it was destroyed in the War.
1818 - The State and War Offices.
1831 - Died on the 8th of December in Washington, D.C.
