484 BC - Greek historian, called the Father of History, was born at Halicarnassus in Asia Minor.

464 BC - 447 BC - The travels of Herodotus seem to have been chiefly accomplished between his twentieth and his thirty seventh year.

460 - His residence in Egypt must, on the other hand, have been subsequent.

457 BC - He took up his abode in Samos.

445 BC - His work won such approval that in the year, on the proposition of a certain Anytus, he was voted a sum of ten talents by decree of the people.

430 BC - He seems to have made but few journeys, one to Crotona, one to Metapontum, and one to Athens being all that his work indicates.

425 BC - Died in Bodrum, Turkey.
