Hearst, George

1820 - Born near Sullivan, Missouri on the 3rd of  September.

1838 - He attended public school and graduated from the Franklin County Mining School.

1850 - He became a highly successful prospector, and otherwise engaged in mining, stock raising and farming in Nevada County.

1862 - He moved to San Francisco and married Phoebe Apperson.

1863 - She gave birth to their only child, William Randolph Hearst.

1865-1866 - Hearst was a member of the California State Assembly.

         - He acquired the 48,000 acre Piedras Blancas Ranch at San Simeon, California.

1882 - He was an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Governor of California.

1886 - He was appointed as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John F. Miller and served from March to August.

1887 - He was elected to the United States Senate as a Democrat and served from March.

1891 - Died in Colma, California on the 28th of February.
