Guthrie, James
1792 - James Guthrie, born on the 5th of December in Nelson County, Kentucky. He was an American businessman and politician.
1827 - Studied law and worked as a lawyer until when he was elected to the Kentucky General Assembly.
1827 - 1829 - He served in Kentucky's lower house.
1831 - 1840 - He served in the upper house, the Kentucky Senate.
1835 - He hoped the capitol of Kentucky would move to Louisville and occupy the unfinished courthouse he planned.
1849 - Served as president of Kentucky Constitutional Convention.
1853 - He was appointed the 21st Secretary of the Treasury by President Franklin Pierce and served for the entirety for Pierce's term.
1861 - He was also a member of the Peace Congress held in Washington, D.C. to devise means to prevent the impending civil war.
1865 - 1868 - He also served in the United States Senate, when he resigned due to ill health.
1869 - Died on the 3rd of March in Louisville and was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery.
