1872 - Zane Grey was born in Zanesville, Ohio, on January 31st.

1890 - He graduated from highschool.

1896 - He graduated from University of Pennsylvania.

1898-1904 - Trained as a dentist, Grey practiced in New York City.

         - Grey's first novel, Betty Zane, drew inspiration from the stories he had heard about frontier Ohio when growing up. He wrote Betty Zane in 1904 but was not able to find a publisher at first.

1905 - Deciding to abandon dentistry for full-time writing, he published "The Spirit of the Border"—also based on Zane's notes—which became a best-seller.

         - Married Lina Elise Roth on November 21st. The couple eventually had three children, Romer, Betty, and Loren.

1910 - He finally had his first success when Harper's Magazine published "The Heritage of the Desert". Two years later, Harper's also published "Riders of the Purple Sage".

1912 - The novel "Riders of the Purple Sage" was the most popular.

1915 - Published "The Lone Star Ranger".

1918 - Worte "The U.P. Trail".

1924 - He wrote "Call of the Canyon".

1925 - Prominent among his nonfiction works is "Tales of Fishing".

1934 - He wrote "Code of the West".

1939 - Grey died unexpectedly of a heart attack on October 23rd in Altadena, California. By the time of his death, the author had written almost ninety books.
