Fux, Johann Joseph
Born: 1660 AD
Died: 1741 AD, at 81 years of age.
1660 - Born in Hirtenfeld in Styria, Austria.
1680 - 1688 - He was accepted at the Jesuit university there, where his musical talent became apparent; and he was organist at St Moritz.
1690 - He was in Vienna, and attracted the attention of Emperor Leopold I with some masses he composed; the emperor was sufficiently impressed by them to assist him with his career after this point.
1698 - Leopold hired him as court composer.
1700 - Traveled again to Italy, studying in Rome.
1711 - Was made musical director of the Austrian Imperial Court.
1725 - His mastery of counterpoint influenced countless composers through his treatise Gradus ad Parnassum.
1741 - Died on the 13th of February in Austria.
