1884 - Born in Provo, Utah on the 11th of September.
- Educated at Brigham Young University.
1911-1916 - Chairman of physics department at Brigham Young University.
- His dissertation research was on methods to determine the charge of an electron. This included the now famous oil drop experiment commonly attributed to his advisor and collaborator, Robert Millikan.
- Fletcher was the Founding Dean of the BYU College of Engineering.
1923 - Millikan went on to win the Nobel Prize for Physics, in part for this work, and Fletcher kept the agreement a secret until his death.
1945 - President of American Physical Society.
1981 - He died on the 23rd of July, after a stroke.
