1988 - She divorced her husband Richard McDermott.

1996 - She wrote The Vagina Monologues as a response to the guilt and embarrassment that many women

              still connect with their bodies and/or their sexuality.

        - She was awarded the Obie Award for ‘Best New Play’.

1999 - She was awarded a "Guggenheim Fellowship Award" in Playwriting.
