1907 - Mircea Eliade, born on the 9th of March in Bucharest, Romania. He was a Romanian historian of religion, fiction writer, philosopher, and professor at the University of Chicago.
1921 - His first work to be published, however, was Cum am gasit piatra filosofala, "How I Found the Philosophers' Stone", printed when he was aged 14.
1925 - He wrote his debut work, and later completed, the autobiographical Novel of the Nearsighted Adolescent (influenced by the literature of Giovanni Papini, particularly his Un uomo finito).
1928 - 1931 - He was a student of Indian philosophy and Sanskrit at Calcutta University.
1928 - He graduated from the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, earning his diploma with a study on Italian Philosophy from Marsilio Ficino to Giordano Bruno,
1933 - 1939 - A lecturer in the history of religion and metaphysics at Bucharest.
1946 - 1985 - He served in the diplomatic service during World War 2.
