1782 - Maria and her eldest sister, assisted their father in managing his estate.
1795 - Her first publication was a plea for female education, Letters to Literary Ladies.
1796 - Appeared the collection of stories known as The Parent's Assistant, an unpromising title which was not chosen by the author.
1800 - Edgeworth's first novel, "Castle Rackrent, an Hibernian Tale taken from Facts, and from the Manners of the Irish Squires before the year 1782", was written without her fathers supervision, and appeared anonymously.
1802 - Received a marriage proposal from Count Edelcrantz.
1817-1820 - After her father's death, she occupied herself with completing his Memoirs, which were published three years later.
1849 - Died on May 22nd in Edgeworthstown, Ireland.
