1834 - Born on the 25th of March in Ballymena, Country Antrim, Northern Ireland.

1861 - With the help of his brother, he
set up a bakery business in the town of Kirkton, Ontario, Canada.

1869 - He purchased an existing dry-goods and haberdashery business at 178 Yonge Street in Toronto, Canada.

1884 - He introduced Canada to the wonders of the mail-order catalogue.

1907 - He died because of pneumonia on the 31st of  January.
