1858 - Born in Épinal, Lorraine on the 15th of April.

 

1882-1885 - Durkheim taught philosophy in several provincial lycées.

 

1886 - Took a leave of absence allowed him to study under the psychologist Wilhelm Wundt in Germany.

 

1887 - He was named lecturer in education and sociology at the University of Bordeaux.

 

1893 - The Division of Labor in Society.

 

1896 - He was raised to a professorship in the first professorship of sociology in France.

 

1897 - Suicide.

 

1902 - He was named to a professorship in sociology and education at the Sorbonne.

 

1915 - His Elementary Forms of the Religious Life is an anthropological study centring largely on totemism of the origins and functions of religion.

 

       - He wrote influential works on sociological method.

 

1917- Durkheim died in Paris on the 15th of November.
