1904 - Charles Drew born on the 3rd of June, in Washington D.C. He was an American physician and medical researcher. He researched in the field of blood transfusions, developing improved techniques for blood storage, and applied his expert knowledge in developing large-scale blood banks early in World War II.

1939 - He married Minnie Lenore Robbins, and they had four children.

1940 - Completes his doctoral thesis, titled "Banked Blood: A Study in Blood Preservation".

       - He was appointed medical supervisor of the "Plasma for Britain" project.

1941 - He was named director of the newly formed Red Cross Blood Bank.

1943 - His distinction in his profession was recognized when he became the first African American surgeon to serve as an examiner on the American Board of Surgery.

1950 - He died on the 1st of April, in an auto accident while traveling to a medical convention.
