1934 - Born - March 12th, El Paso, TX

 

 

1951 - High School- New Mexico Military Institute, Roswell, NM

1950's -  He started out in radio, during his college years, doing the local news for KEPO in El Paso, Texas. After graduation Donaldson went to Los Angeles where he spent a year at USC before returning to Texas to volunteer for Dwight D. Eisenhower's 1956 Presidential campaign.

 

 

University- University of Southern California

 

1956 -  At that time an enthusiastic young Republican, Donaldson worked for the Eisenhower campaign arranging the El Paso stop of Vice President Nixon. This was only the first of many encounters with the nation's political leaders, but Donaldson's politics were to change dramatically over the years to come.

 

 

1956-59- US Army

 

 

1959 - discharged from the Army, Donaldson landed a TV news job at an ABC affiliate in Dallas.

 

 

1960's - Married to (name not known) (1 child). It's possible this happened in the 60's, the facts are fuzzy at best on this marriage.

 

 

1960 - left the Southwest for the first time to seek his fortune in New York City. After initial setbacks in

New York, he found a job at WTOP, the CBS affiliate in Washington, D.C. He has lived in the Washington area ever since.

 

 

1965-1981 - Married to Billie Kay Butler, they had three sons, one daughter.

 

 

1967 - he was recruited to join ABC News, where he covered the White House beat during the Carter and Reagan years.

 

 

 

1977-89- ABC White House Correspondent, also recently in 1998-2000's

 

 

 

1981-96- This Week Panelist and Co-Anchor (1996-98)

 

 

 

1983 - Married Janice C. Smith.

 

 

1989-98- Primetime Live Anchor

 

 

1998-2000's- 20/20 Co-Anchor

 

 

 

2007 - "The Investigators" as Himself (1 episode).
