1610 - Born on March 4th in London. Dobson is remembered as the most celebrated English-born painter before Hogarth.

1641 - He succeeded Van Dyck as the sergeant painter to the King.

1642 - William Dobson began his career as a painter for Charles I court in Oxford.

1646 - When Oxford was taken over by the Parliamentarians, he moved to London where he was imprisoned for death and died not long after his release.

         - Died on October 28th.
