1870 - Born in Evansville, Indiana on the 18th of February.

1887-1894 - He worked in the maritime customs service.

1896 - He then returned to the United States and graduated from law school at the University of Michigan.

1903 - He was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives.

1904 - Denby was elected as a Republican from Michigan's 1st congressional district to the 59th.

         - Denber served as chairman of the United States House Committee on Naval Affairs.

1910 - He was defeated in a general election by Democrat Frank E. Doremus and resumed his law practice in Detroit.

1916-1917 - He served as president of the Detroit Board of Commerce and enlisted as a private in the United States Marine Corps when the U.S. entered World War I.

1919 - He retired with the rank of major.

1921 - Appointed as Secretary of the Navy. During the crisis of mail robberies , Denby issued orders that Marines should be put in mail trucks and rail cars as protectors of the U.S. Mails.

1929 - Died on the 8th of February.
