Dalrymple, James, Sir

1619 - James Dalrymple was born on May at Drummurchie, Barr, South Ayrshire.

1633 - Graduated at University of Glasgow, on 26th of July.

1634 - He went to Edinburgh, probably with the intention of studying law.

1641 - Recalled to compete for regency, as a professorship was then called in the University of Glasgow.

1648 - Resigned his regency, and removed to Edinburgh, where he was admitted to the bar on 17th of February.

1649 - Appointed as secretary to the commission sent to The Hague to treat with Charles II by the Scots Parliament.

1661 - He was knighted, and included in the new nomination of judges in the Court of Session.

1662 - One of the judges who refused to take the declaration that the National Covenant.

1670 - Served as one of the Scottish commissioners who went to London to treat of the Union.

1671 - Stair was appointed Lord President of the Court of Session.

1673 - Returned to parliament for Wigtownshire.

1679 - He went to London to defend the court against charges of partiality and injustice.

1692 - He lost his wife, the faithful partner of his good and evil fortune.

1695 - He suffered from failing health, died on 29th of November in Edinburgh, and was buried in the church of St Giles.
