1759 - Born on the 21st of June in Kingston, Jamaica, to Dr. Robert Charles Dallas and Sarah Elizabeth (Cormack) Hewitt.

 

1764 - Moved to Edinburgh and then to London, and in London he studied under James Elphinston.

 

1783 - Immigrated to US.

 

1781 - In Jamaica, he was admitted to the bar through his father's connections.

 

1785 - Dallas was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar.

 

1793 - He was a founder of the Democratic-Republican Societies.

 

1791-1801 - Governor Thomas Mifflin named Dallas secretary of the commonwealth.

 

1801-1814 - He was named United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

 

1814-1816 - Secretary of the Treasury.

 

1815 - Acting Secretary of War and for a time that year was acting Secretary of State as well.

 

1791 - Member of the American Philosophical Society from and a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania.

 

1817 - Alexander James Dallas died on 16th of January.
