1982 - Born on August 23rd in Vallejo, California. World-record holder in the 100-meter backstroke and is the first woman to swim it under a minute (59.58).

2001 - Honored as a three-time NCAA Swimmer of the Year and three-time Pac-10 Swimmer of the Year.

2002 - Chosen as the Female World Swimmer of the Year by Swimming World magazine.

2003 - Became the NCAA's first three-time title-winner in the 100-yard butterfly and 100 and 200-yard backstrokes. Coughlin owns the American and NCAA records in each of those events.

2004 - Won 5 medals at the Olympics (2 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze).

2005 - Graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in psychology.

         - Natalie Coughlin joined the California coaching staff as a volunteer assistant.
