1690 - Born in Stradbally Hall, Queen's County, Ireland.

1703 - 13 year old William Cosby traveled to Italy and earned money by gambling in card games.

1711 - Sir William Cosby married Grace Montagu, a British lady with connections at Buckingham Palace, as sister of George Montagu, 1st Earl of Halifax.

1717 - Sir William Cosby was promoted to Colonel of the Royal Regiment of Ireland.

 

1731 - Governor of New York and the Jerseys.

 

1735 - Cosby was promoted to Vice Admiral on the 29th of September, and to Brigadier General on the 30th of November, while serving as royal governor.

1736 - Died of tuberculosis on the 10th of March, between 1 and 2 p.m., in the Governor's House at Ft. George, today's Battery Park, New York City.
