1916 - He ran for Governor on a platform that attacked Catholics, liberals, immigration policies, and taxes.
1917 - He ran as the Prohibition candidate and was elected as Florida's twenty-second Governor.
- His term of office was a constant struggle with the Democratic Party that controlled the state legislature and many of his plans to drain the Everglades and redistribute the state's wealth were judged radical.
1920-1929 - He was defeated for a second term and accused of counterfeiting.
- He left politics upon his acquittal.
1936 - Died on March 9th in De Funiak Springs, Florida.
