1909 - Born on September 16th at Fort Monroe, Virginia. American general.
- He had held numerous Army commands and served as a top aide to General George C. Marshall when Marshall was a General, Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense.
1931 - He graduated from West Point.
1936 - Earned a Master Degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
- He served in the Logistics Group of the War Deprtment General Staff and as Deputy Chief of Staff in the China Theater of Operations.
1946 - He became an aide to Marshall, who was then a Special Envoy to China.
- He rose to the rank of Diplomatic Minister, and helped to supervise postwar programs in Europe and assisted Secretary Marshall at five major foreign conferences.
1962 - John F. Kennedy appointed him Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
1965 - President Lyndon B. Johnson named him Director of the National Security Agency.
1969 - He became President of the George C. Marshall Research Foundation.
1993 - Died on February 18th in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
