Carnot, Lazare Nicolas Marguerite
1753 - Born on May 13th in Nolay, France. French mathematician, politician and engineer.
1797 - He was ousted from the Directory in the coup of 18 Fructidor.
1800 - He was the French Minister of War under Napoleon Bonaparte.
1803 - He wrote the books: La métaphysique du calcul infinitésimal and Géométrie de position.
- He published Géométrie de position in which sensed magnitudes were first systematically used in geometry.
1810 - His masterpiece, De la défense des places fortes, long considered the classic work on fortification.
1814 - He returned to active service and conducted the defense of Antwerp.
- In the Hundred Days he served as minister of the interior.
1823 - Died on August 22nd in Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
