1909 - Born on August 18th in Paris, France. A  motion-picture director noted for the poetic realism of his pessimistic dramas.

1928 - Carné joined the director Jacques Feyder as an assistant.

1930 - He assisted René Clair on the popular comedy Sous les toits de Paris (“Under the Roofs of Paris”).

1936 - At the age of 25 he directed his first movie Jenny.

1938 - He became the great director of the pre-war era of the French cinema with the poetic realism style.

1945 - He worked in the zone of the government of Vichy making Enfants du paradis, Les, a clear anti-nazi parabola and all time classic of French cinema.

1996 - Died on October 31st in Clamart, Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France.
