1863 - Born on September 28 on Lisbon. His full name is Carlos Fernando Luís Maria Victor Miguel Rafael Gabriel Gonzaga Xavier Francisco de Assis José Simão of Braganza, son of King Luis I and Queen Maria Pia of Lisbon.

 

1886 - Carlos was married to Princess Amélie of Orléans on May 22nd. She was daughter of Philippe, Comte de Paris and Marie Isabelle d'Orléans. They had three children.

 

1889 - He became the King of Portugal. 

 

1901 - He was appointed as Colonel-in-Chief of The Oxfordshire Light Infantry on February 20th.

 

1907 - Dissolved parliament on May and gave to João Franco, a conservative reformist who had bolted from the Regenerators to form his own party, the power to govern by decree.

 

        - Carlos' illegitimate daughter, Maria Pia de Saxe-Coburg-Gotha-Braganca, by Maria Amelia Laredo e Murca was born.

 

1908 - Carlos and his sons were assassinated by two disgruntled republicans as they crossed the Praça do Comêrcio by open landau in Lisbon. The king and his youngest son, Prince Louis, were killed, and his oldest son, Manuel, survived a bullet wound in the arm. Manuel, who was eighteen at the time, became king as Manuel II.
