1851 - Born on December 30th near Villa Rica, Georgia. American soft-drink manufacturer who developed Coca-Cola.

         - Candler studied medicine, became a pharmacist, and developed a prosperous wholesale drug business.

1887 - He purchased the formula for Coca-Cola, then not particularly well-known, from a business associate.

         - He improved the manufacturing process and built Coca-Cola into one of the most prosperous of U.S. businesses.

1890 - Under Candler's leadership, sales rose from about 9,000 gallons of syrup to 370,877 gallons, and during the decade syrup-making plants were established in Dallas, Texas, and in Los Angeles and Philadelphia, selling in every U. S. states and territory and to Canada.

1892 - American corporation was founded and engaged primarily in the manufacture and sale of syrup and concentrate for Coca-Cola, a sweetened, carbonated beverage that is a cultural institution in the United States and a symbol around the world of American tastes.

1893 - The trademark “Coca-Cola” was registered in the United States Patent Office.

1899 - The Coca-Cola Company signed its first agreement with an independent bottling company, which was allowed to buy the syrup and produce, bottle, and distribute the Coca-Cola drink.

1906 - Completed the city's tallest building, the Candler Building.

1916 - Served as mayor of Atlanta, Georgia.

1919 - Under Candler the firm was most successful in the South. He sold the business for $25,000,000.

         - Candler also devoted his energy to philanthropy. With his financial aid, Emory College, located near Atlanta, moved into the city and expanded to become Emory University. His gift of nearly $2,000,000 made possible the construction of a teaching hospital adjacent to the university's medical school.

1922 - Donated over 50 acres of his Druid Hills holdings to city for what became Candler Park.

1929 - Died on March 12th in Atlanta, Georgia.
