Campbell, Carroll Ashmore Jr.
1940 - He was born on the 24th of July in Greenville, South Carolina, to Carroll Campbell, Sr. and Anne Williams Campbell.
- He was educated in Greenville's public schools and graduated from the McCallie School in Tennessee.
1959 - At 19, he worked in the real estate business; he co-founded a successful chain of parking facilities.
1967 - He co-founder of a business that developed a chain of 13 Burger King restaurants.
- He became an active breeder of Arabian horses, owning a chain of 19 Wendy's restaurants in South Carolina.
1970-1974 - He was first elected to public office as a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives.
1976 - He run for a special election and won a seat representing Greenville in the state Senate.
1979 - He was elected to the United States Congress from South Carolina's fourth congressional district.
1987 - Campbell was elected as Governor of South Carolina.
1990 - He was re-elected as Governor of South Carolina.
1995 - He became President and CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers.
2001 - He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was forced to abandon plans to run for Governor.
2002 - He retired as CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers in January.
2005 - He was admitted to a long-term residential treatment facility for Alzheimer's patients in August.
- He died of a heart attack on the 7th of December, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina.
