1858 - Born Rosa Emma Calvet on the 15th of August to Justin Calvet, was a civil engineer. She was a French operatic soprano and one of the most famous French female opera singers of the Belle Époque.

 

She took lessons from the German mezzo-soprano and student of Manuel García Mathilde Marchesi.

 

1881 - Her debut as a singer was in Gounod's Faust at Brussels' La Monnaie.

 

1891 - Returned to Paris where she created the part of Suzel in L'Amico Fritz by Pietro Mascagni.

 

       - She was chosen to originate the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana.

 

1894 - Appeared in the role at the Opéra-Comique, Paris and then immediately hailed as the greatest Carmen that had ever appeared.

 

1893-1894 - Calvé first appeared in America as Mignon.

 

1894 - Created as part of Anita, and Massenet's La Navarraise in London, and sang Sapho, in an opera.

 

1899 - She sang Ophélie in Ambroise Thomas's Hamlet in Paris.

 

1922 - Wrote autobiographies "My Life".

 

1940 - She wrote "Sous tous les ciels j'ai chante".

 

1942 - Died on 6th of January at Montpellier, Hérault, and is buried in Millau.
