1934 - He was born at Preston Crowmarsh in Oxfordshire, on the 24th of September.
1958 - He wrote his first novel, Galactic Storm, at 17, under the name of Gill Hunt, but did not write full time.
- He served as an officer in the Royal Air Force and married Marjorie Rosamond Sauer.
1968-1969 - His novel Stand on Zanzibar won the Hugo Award for best science fiction novel, and is now considered a classic of the genre.
1971 - The Jagged Orbit won the British SF Award.
1972 - His novel The Sheep Look Up was a prophetic warning of ecological disaster.
1975 - Brunner's best-known work is perhaps proto-Cyberpunk The Shockwave Rider, in which he coined the term "worm", used to describe software which reproduces itself across a computer network.
1980-1986 - His health began to decline in the and worsened with the death of his wife.
1991 - He remarried, to Li Yi Tan, on the 27th of September.
1995 - Brunner died of a stroke in Glasgow, Scotland on the 25th of August, while attending the World Science Fiction Convention there.
