- He earned a two-year business degree before taking a job as an employee of the city of Los Angeles.
1944 - He entered the United States Army, serving in World War II.
- He worked as an engineer upon graduation, then again went back to work for the the city of Los Angeles as a city manager.
1954 - He was elected to a four-year term as mayor of Monterey Park, California.
1962 - Brown was elected to the United States House of Representatives and served four terms.
1971 - He gave up his seat, after losing a hotly contested Democratic nomination for United States Senate to eventual election winner John Tunney.
1999 - He died on the 15th of July.
