1947 – He was born on the 22nd of July this year in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California.

1960 - He changed his surname from Einstein (to avoid confusion with the famous scientist) and began a stand-up comedy career that quickly made him a regular on variety and talk shows during the late of this year and early 1970s.

1974 – He had his successful comedy album, “Comedy minus One” on this year.

1975 – He was nominated in Grammy Award, “A Star is bought.”

1976 - He appeared in his first mainstream film role, in Scorsese's landmark Taxi Driver (Scorsese allowed Brooks to improvise much of his dialogue).

1979 - He directed his first feature film, “Real Life” this year.

1980 – He also made a brief cameo in the film Private Benjamin starring Goldie Hawn.

1996 - He garnered positive reviews for “Mother”, which starred Brooks as a middle-aged writer moving back home to resolve his tensions with his mother (Debbie Reynolds).

1987 - He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

1998 - He also won positive notices for his role in Out of Sight, playing an untrustworthy banker and ex-convict.

2001 – He received positive reviews for his portrayal of a dying retail storeowner who befriends disillusioned teen Leelee Sobieski in “My First Mister”.

2003 - He continued his voiceover work in Disney and Pixar's “Finding Nemo”, as the voice of "Marlin", the film's protagonist; Nemo is his largest grossing film to date.

2005 - His film “Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World” drew controversy for its title.
