Brinkley, Alan David

1949 - Alan Brinkley was born. A progressive historian of 20th century American history and the current chairman of the board of trustees of the Century Foundation.
1971 - Received his B.A. degree from Princeton University.
1979 - Earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University.
1982 - Brinkley is the author of such monumental works as "Voices of Protest: Huey Long, Father Coughlin, and the Great Depression".
1983 - Received the National Book Award for his Voices of Protest.
1987 - Awarded the Joseph R. Levenson Memorial Teaching Prize at Harvard.
1991 - He is the Allan Nevins Professor of History and chair of the history department in Columbia University.
1998 - He was a Harmsworth Professor of American History at Oxford University.
1998 - Became the Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Century Institute.
2000 - He held the History Department Chair at Columbia University.
2003 - He is currently the university provost of Columbia University.
2006-2007 - Recipient of the Scholarly Journal Award by Kathy Walh-Henshaw at St. Mary's Lancaster.
