1849 - Born on November 21st in Bringetofta, Sweden. Swedish metallurgist, engineer and developer of the Brinell hardness test and equipment.
1900 - He first demonstrated his idea at the Paris Exhibition, the test provides a hardness number or rating based on pressing a standard size steel ball into a metal specimen using a known force.
- Johann August Brinell develops a test to estimate the hardness of metals that involves pressing a steel ball or diamond cone against the specimen.
1903 - Brinell was chief engineer of the Swedish Ironmasters Association.
1925 - Died on November 17th in Stockholm.
