1826 - Born on June 19th in Litchfield, Connecticut. American reformer and pioneer social-welfare worker, a founder and for 37 years executive secretary of the Children's Aid Society of New York City.
1852 - At the age of twenty-six, he was asked to head up the newly forming Children's Aid Society of New York, which became his life ministry.
1854 - He married Miss Letitia Neill in Belfast, Ireland, on August 21st.
1875 - In a summer home was established where street children could spend a week in the fresh air by the sea.
1890 - Died of Bright's disease on August 11th in Campfer, Switzerland.
