1922 - Born on June 11th in Frugarolo. Italian Catholic archbishop.
1945 - He was ordained as a Catholic priest.
- He became the right-hand man of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, head of the powerful Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Church department which monitors the work of theologians.
1995 - Bovone had headed the congregation since Pope John Paul appointed him to the position.
- He served as the prefect of the Congregation for the Cause of Saints, the department that decides who is eligible for beatification and sainthood.
1998 - The Pope made him a cardinal last February but Bovone was too ill to attend the ceremony and received his red cardinal's hat in hospital from a papal aide.
- Died on April 17th in Rome at the age of 75.
