1913 - Born in Fla in the municipality of Melhus in Sor-Trondelag, on April 3rd. A Norwegian agronomist and politician.
1939 - Educated as Agriculturist from the Agricultural University of Norway.
1941 - Started his political career serving as mayor of Fla.
1946 - He served as head of the region's Agrarian Youth Movement.
1949 - Elected to the Norwegian parliament.
- He was elected to the Storting, or parliament, and represented the Farmer's Party, which was the forerunner of the Center Party.
1955 - Acted as the parliamentary leader for his party and served as its chairman.
1961 - Served as president of Odelsting.
1965 - 1971 - Served as Prime Minister of Norway.
- Mr. Borten was best remembered for the non-socialist coalition government he formed in October, ending 20 years of dominance by the social democratic Labor Party.
- His coalition government of four non-Socialist parties resigned after Borten revealed confidential information about Norway's negotiations for European Community membership.
1973 - 1977 - Once again, he became the president of Odelsting.
- He was re-elected every four years until he declined to run.
2005 - Died on 20th of January at St. Olav's Hospital in Trondheim at the age of 91.
