1940 - He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on the 14th of January.

1957 - He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta.

1960 - Bond was a founding member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

1963 - He led student protests against segregation in public facilities in Georgia.

1961 - He served as communications director of Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

         - With Morris Dees he founded the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a public interest law firm.

1965 - He served as a Democratic member in the Georgia House for four terms.

1971 - He was that Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) president.

         - He served as President Emeritus of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

1975 - He served six terms in the Georgia Senate.

1980 - He hosted America's Black Forum and still serves as a commentator for the show.

1987-1990 - He narrated the critically acclaimed PBS series Eyes on the Prize, on the life of New York Congressman Adam Clayton Powell.

1998 - He was Chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

1999 - Bond received a LL.D. from Bates College.

2007 - Bond retired from teaching at Virginia.
