1636 - Nicolas Boileau was born on the 1st of November in Paris, France. He was the fifteenth child of Gilles Boileau, a clerk in the parlement. He was a French critic and satiric poet.

1666 - Published Satires du Sieur D..., containing seven satires and the Discours au roi.

1669 - Appeared his epistles.

1674 - His two masterpieces, L'Art poétique and Le Lutrin, were published.

       - Appeared also his translation of Longinus On the Sublime.

1677 - Boileau was made historiographer.

1687 - Retired to a country house he had bought at Auteuil.

1705 - He sold his house and returned to Paris.

1711 - His death took place on the 13th of March.
