Blount, James Henderson
1837 - Born near Clinton, Jones County, Georgia, on the 12th of September.
- Attended private schools in Jones County, Georgia and in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
1858 - Graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens.
1859 - Studied law and was admitted to the Georgia bar.
- During the American Civil War he served in the Confederate States Army.
1873-1893 - Blount served in the United States Congress representing the sixth district of Georgia.
1891-1893 - Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Relations.
1893 - Appointed as special US commissioner to Hawaii to investigate overthrow of Liliuokalani.
- Concluded that US interests had instigated coup that toppled Liliuokalani and established US protectorate.
- Ordered termination of US protectorate (carried out by Grover Cleveland).
1903 - Died on 8th of March in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia, and is buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia.
