1947-1985 - He was a master spy in the CIA (and its wartime forerunner, the Office of Strategic Services) and was noted for his deft decision making.
1965 - One of Blee's biggest early triumphs came, when as CIA station chief in India he handled the defection of Svetlana Stalin, the daughter of the Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.
1971 - Blee was put in charge of the CIA's Soviet Division and made a break with the agency's chief of counterintelligence, James Angleton, effectively ending Angleton's influence over the agency's operations against Moscow.
2000 - He died on the 4th of August in his home in Bethesda, Maryland.
