1813 - Born on the 10th of May in Franklin County, Kentucky, the son of Francis Preston Blair.
1835 - Graduated from the United States Military Academy.
- He left the Army, studied law, and began practice at St Louis, Missouri.
1834 - 1849 - Became the judge of the court of common pleas.
1839 - 1843 - Served as United States district attorney.
1852 - He moved to Maryland and devoted himself to law practice.
1855 - 1858 - He was the United States Solicitor in the Court of Claims.
1857 - Associated with George T. Curtis as counsel for the plaintiff in the Dred Scott v. Sanford case.
1860 - He took an active part in the presidential campaign in behalf of Abraham Lincoln.
1861 - 1864 - Became the Postmaster General.
1868 - Democratic vice presidential candidate.
1883 - He died on 27th of July.
