1929 - Billington was born on the 1st of June in Mawr, Pennsylvania.

1973-1987 - Served as Director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.

       - He founded the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies.

1980 - Authored the book "Fire in the Minds of Men".

1987 - Served as the 13th Librarian of Congress on 14th of September.

1992 - Wrote "Russia Transformed: Breakthrough to Hope, August 91'".

2002 - Received an honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford in November.
