1906 - Born on the 2nd of July in Strassburg, Germany. German-born American astrophysicist and physicist.

1915 - He attended the Gymnasium in Frankfurt.

1928 - Studied at the University of Frankfurt for two years, and at Munich for two and one half years, taking his Ph. D. in theoretical physics with Professor Arnold Sommerfeld in July.

1929 - Bethe made an important contribution to solid-state physics and chemistry.

         - Obtained his doctorate from the University of Munich with supervisor Arnold Sommerfeld.

1933-1934 - Bethe left Germany when the Nazis came to power.

         - Worked as provisionary position of Lecturer.

         - Worked at the University of Bristol.

1935-1938 - Moved to the United States, and joined the faculty at Cornell University.

         - Studied nuclear reactions and reaction cross-sections (carbon-oxygen-nitrogen cycle).

1941 - Became a naturalized citizen of the United States.

1942 - Served as part of a special session at the University of California for the first designs for the atomic bomb.

1947 - Bethe was the first to explain the Lamb-shift in the hydrogen spectrum, and he thus laid the foundation for the modern development of quantum electrodynamics.

1948-1949 - He was a Visiting Professor at Columbia University.

         - Was added to an article on cosmogenesis published by Ukrainian physicist George Gamow and American physicist Ralph Alpher, "The Origin of Chemical Elements".

1954 - He became the President of American Physical Society.

1967 - Won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the theory of stellar nucleosynthesis.

2005 - Hans Albrecht Bethe died of congestive heart failure on 6th of March in Ithaca, New York, USA.
