1899 - Born on the 22nd of February in West Pembroke, Maine, USA. Canadian-American physiologist.

         - Charles Herbert Best was most renowned as co-discoverer of insulin with Frederick G. Banting.
 
1921-1922 - Studied medicine at the University of Toronto.

         - Best's physiology professor, John James Rickard Macleod, introduced him to Frederick Grant Banting, a 29-year-old orthopedic surgeon from London, Ontario.

         - With Sir Frederick Banting, was the first to obtain a pancreatic extract of insulin in a form that controlled diabetes in dogs.

         - Banting and Best wrote their first paper describing the experiments with dogs, titled "The Internal Secretion of the Pancreas." It was accepted for publication in the February issue of the Journal of Laboratory and Clinical Medicine.

1923 - Banting & J.J.R. Macleod awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for the discovery of insulin, ignoring Best.

1924 - Married to Margaret Hooper Mahon in Toronto.

1928 - He received his doctorate from the University of London.

1929 - Succeeded Macleod as professor of physiology at University of Toronto.

1941 - Best was appointed director of the medical research unit of the Canadian Navy.

         - Frederick Banting was killed in a airplane crash en route to a wartime mission. After Banting's death, Best took over his directorship of the Banting and Best department of medical research at the University of Toronto.

1948 - He was president of the American Diabetes Association and remained honorary president thereafter.

1953 - Best became the first president of the International Union of Physiological Sciences.

1967 - He was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.

1978 - Dr. Charles Herbert Bestdied on 31st of March.

1994 - He was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.

2004 - Inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
