1914 - John Jay Berwanger was born on the 19th of March in Dubuque, Iowa. Former University of Chicago football player.

         - Berwanger was a sportswriter and later became a manufacturer of plastic car parts.

1935 - Against Ohio State he made an 85-yard run in which, as recorded in the NCAA guide, "Berwanger bowled over four tacklers, outwitted two others, and outran the last.

         - Won the first Heisman Trophy as halfback for University of Chicago.

         - Awarded to the best player east of the Mississippi River.

1936 - He was the first player chosen in the first National Football League player draft.

1975 - Married to his second wife Jane Temple.

2002 - John Jay Berwanger died of lung cancer on 26th of June in Oak Brook, Illinois.
